World Champion Poker and Blackjack Tournament held in Oklahoma
April 06, 2008 - Peter PerssonLights, cameras and a five million dollar purse! That's the amount the WinStar casino poker and black jack tournament that is attracting world champion players and celebrities from around the world. KTEN's Hailee Holliday reports.
If the purse alone doesn't attract people to the area, the tournament's two reality television shows surely will.
Monthly tournaments began in March and will conclude with a weeklong finale August 16 through the 23rd.
The WinStar World Championship Series is the largest tournament the casino puts on and throughout the tournament production crews will be filming the participants to be in reality shows titled "The River" for the poker tournament and "The Split" for black jack.
Both reality shows will be hosted by celebrities.
Chickasaw Nation officials say the tournament is bound to impact the local economy.
Chickasaw Nation's Brian Campbell says, "Of course love county has the fastest growing economy in the state of Oklahoma and we're glad we are a part of that and we expect that to continue and also have a direct benefit, but also there are alot of indirect benefits. We know that businesses from Gainesville and Ardmore are also seeing alot of traffic coming to their communities."
The championship tournament will be held on August 16th.
