Strategy for online elimination blackjack
October 18, 2007 - Gunilla Larsen

Many people who are beginning to expose themselves to the unbelievably exciting world of online elimination blackjack are wondering precisely what strategy will serve them best in their pursuit of big winnings. And the truth of the matter is that not only novices are somewhat confounded by this issue. Even players who have spent years performing notably at blackjack tables in brick-and-mortar casinos are rightfully concerned about how effectively they will be able to make the transition to the elimination format. There can be no denying that a whole host of distinct elements make this version of the game quite different then the blackjack you may be used to. Let's look at what these differences are, and then examine how they can be surmounted successfully.
The first of these major differences is evident in the name itself. This popular form of blackjack is defined by the elimination hands which make all the difference in terms of your revival. A typical online elimination blackjack tournament is comprised of 30 hands in total, and spaced regularly throughout this duration are several elimination hands. Most commonly, they will occur on hands numbered 8, 16, and 24, though quite a bit of variety can come into play in terms of how the hands are arranged throughout any given match. Regardless of when they are scheduled, the end result is always the same. The player who ends up with the least amount of chips at the end of each elimination hand is promptly kicked out of the game. It sounds harsh, and it is. That's what makes this such a truly exciting game to watch and play.
Standard blackjack aficionados are also not accustomed to making critical decisions in very short periods of time. Well, if you happen to fall into this camp, you'd better adjust your thinking promptly. Because during an elimination tournament in an online casino, you will be given only 25 seconds to make a decision during a regular hand, and an unbelievably brief 10 seconds to make the same decisions during elimination hands. It just doesn't seem fair that during the hands in which your fate will be decided you have less time to make a call - and that's exactly what the designers of elimination blackjack tournaments had in mind. (You have to admit, there's some kind of evil genius at work here.)
So what strategy should you adopt in order to survive this virtual shark tank of blackjack mania? Striking a balance between caution and aggression is what many experts will tell you. And yet there can be no doubt that boldness is awarded more often than not in an online elimination blackjack tournament. Some experts will strongly endorse the "succeed-or-bust" strategy, which mandates that it is always better to aggressively move towards the next round than to simply try to serve and hope your opponents will bust.
What is your personal threshold for risk? Take some time to figure this out, and your answer will help you determine what kind of strategy to peruse when competing in an online elimination blackjack tournament.
